Video In PE

After completing a PSA (public service announcement) for my graduate class, an idea sparked. I think that having children create videos is a great way for students to work collaboratively. I know that working in our group, it was essential for each member to contribute. This would also be a great way for students to voice their opinions about different topics.

  1. Good call! I agree that it really is a great collaborative and cooperative activity. Roles do play an important part, and students need to understand how they work. The hope is that eventually everyone will get to work in every role at some point and time. Good luck!

  2. Yes! Kids love producing videos. Although it can be a time consuming assignment, I think it is an excellent one because it involves collaboration AND it really forces students to double check their work and re-think all of the information that is going into their video. And the best part is; they usually don't even realize that they're "double checking" their product because they want to watch it and edit it!

  3. I am not sure what you have to teach as a PE teacher but you could have your students make videos on exercising or "how to..." (correctly throw a ball for example). Going along the lines of exercising, you could have the students make videos that they could use in the classroom when they have to have indoor recess due to weather. The video/s could be put on your school's shared drive and any teacher could access it for use in their own classroom.

  4. I agree with you Matt, after completing our PSA the other night, I was excited about creating videos. I want to have my 6th grade group who I have already been working with making posters, flyers, etc. to make a video advertisement for an upcoming basketball event. I got so excited about it that I went and bought 2 flip cameras...Ooops told my Principal and I got in trouble for that one, but hey they were on sale!!! :)
